add reporter value from a Jira Issue to the "Assigned to" attribute in Insight

hello,

I am trying to solve a problem I have regarding insight post functions on a Jira issue workflow but i am not sure what the best approach is .

in a nutshell i am trying to assign an application name ( Object from the Application object type ) in Insight based on the reporter name (from a Jira issue workflow) and application  name ( Jira custom field ) . I have found this page https://confluence.atlassian.com/insightapps/post-functions-1085180917.html

that has a code to update an Insight object attribute but i am not sure if this is the best way to solve this problem or if there is any existing code or post function that i could use. given that I am trying to not overwrite the value but add the reporter's name to the list of applications assigned to user's list .

Let me see if I have the facts straight,

  1. You have an insight object type called "Application"
  2. The Application object type has an attribute "Assigned to"
    1. What type is this attribute? Is it an object reference to a User object type? Or a Jira User type?
  3. In the issue, the reporter fills in an "Application name" custom field
    1. What is the type of this custom field? Text or Insight Object?
    2. If free text, what happens if there are not applications by that name?

Your goal is, with a jira issue workflow, to update the Application object identified by the "Application name" custom field (either as an object reference of a free text field) and set the attribute "Assigned to" to the reporter of the issue.

Is that correct?

Depending on your responses to 2.1 and 3.1 and 3.2 this might be possible without any scripting.
