Update Original Estimate using Automatic rules

I am using Jira Cloud, and I want to update the original Estimate days according to Story points number. For example, if the user will enter 8 story points for a story, I would like to update the Original estimate to 8d.

I know how to set the trigger, but failing in the Original Estimate update.

Any advise will be great.

Hi @Gaurav

This is what I did, but with no success. The rule is triggered when changing story point for a story, but the Original Estimate field is not updated.

A screenshot of the rule is attached:

Tired this code in several forms but nothing helps.

Please advise what is wrong with my code.

Hello @Itamar

The reason for the Original Estimate not updating is the condition used in the Branch. It states if this is triggered from an Epic, then update/ take action on all issues in the Epic. BUt we are triggering/ updating a story, so it does not work. Refer to the first screenshot.

If I understand your use case, you need to update the Original Estimate any time the Story Points are updated. Based on this understanding, the rule can be simply created using smart values. Please confirm this understanding. Refer to the second screenshot.

Alternatively, it could be that with the change of Epic Story POints, you wish to update the estimates for every issue of that Epic. Even this is possible with automation. Refer to the third screenshot.

Please find below the screenshots, for all these options.

Hi @Gaurav

Thanks a lot! your first suggestion was exactly what I was trying to do. Updating the specific story that it's story points have been changed.

Thanks a lot,

Hello @Itamar

This can be done using automation in Jira. Please find attached the screenshot for the implementation. The rule can be extended and customized as per your requirements.
