Monitor Domain & SSL Certificate Expiry from Jira

Situations when a site suddenly stops working for a banal reason - the certificate has expired or the domain has not been renewed on time - are not as rare as we would like. This happens both in small firms and personal projects and in companies with hundreds of employees. The reason is simple - the human factor.

To control Domains and SSL certificates, we at Softlist have developed the License Manager plugin for Jira. The plugin will automatically determine the expiration dates for domains and/or certificates and notify all responsible employees in time.

Domain Monitoring

The License Manager plugin allows you to manage all of your company's domains directly in your existing Jira instance. You can track important details such as registrar name and expiration dates within your domain name. Additionally, the plugin can send notifications when a domain is about to expire, so you can take action immediately.

Information about some domain names registered, for example, in the .gov, .edu, .uk and other "special" TLDs zones, is not available in the public WHOIS database, so the "License Manager" plugin supports adding custom domains with the ability to manually specify information about the registrar and expiration date.

SSL Monitoring

Expired SSL certificates can be a nightmare. Transaction processing, search rankings, and negative customer experience are just some of the problems caused by forgetting to renew an SSL certificate. Especially often this began to happen with the widespread distribution of certificates for 3 months from Let's Encrypt, because. auto-renewal sometimes fails for various reasons.

That's why the "License Manager" plugin has SSL certificate monitoring so you don't have to remember when they expire! It is configured and works in the same way as domain monitoring:

The plugin will check the validity of the SSL certificate and warn you about the need to renew it.

Import & Export

The "License Manager" plugin has robust import and export functions, making it easy to manage domains and SSL certificates with maximum efficiency. Users can easily import data in .CSV format from external sources. This feature will prove invaluable for those working with large data sets or migrating from other platforms. On the other hand, the export function allows you to extract data about domains and SSL certificates for analysis or backup.

Using these two monitoring functions in the License Manager, you will always know in time about the approaching expiration of certificates and the expiration of domains.

If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the “License Manager” plugin, please write in the comments to this article or submit a request through our service desk portal, we will be happy to discuss!

Cool plugin, Tetiana!
What kind of notifications the plugin support?
I mean some pop-up, email (for whom?) or maybe automatical ticket creation

Hey @Roma Bubyakin! Thank you for your response. Our plugin automatically creates a ticket (task) for the responsible employee when an event occurs soon (end of domain or certificate). The plugin also has a built-in calendar where you can view all future renewals of your domains and certificates.

Hi @Tetiana Bondar _Softlist_,

This looks like a great app. Do you know if a DC release is/will be considered ?

Hi @Flora Vidal , thanks for your interest, but at the moment we do not plan to release a version of the plugin for DC. Instead, our development team wants to focus on developing new functionality for the Cloud version.

Great plug-in. Adding GoDaddy to the list of CA will be a good choice.

kzintan August 5, 2022

Does it also support self signed certificates?

Hi @kzintan, currently the "License Manager" plugin does not support self signed certificates. But we will add the development of this functionality to our roadmap. Thanks for the idea!

Hi @Norbin Cruz , thanks for the feedback. Our plugin supports working with domains regardless of their registrar - domain information is synchronized with public data in WHOIS. You can also quickly import a list of all your domains using the CSV file.

But we agree that a quick import of all registered domains directly from GoDaddy, Namecheap or another provider would be very convenient. We will consider the possibility of such integration. Thank you!

This looks like a great app. I'd like to lend my voice to wanting self signed certificate support. This would be a killer feature for us, as well as support for multiple certificate formats.

@Tetiana Bondar _Softlist_ Hi I'm facing the issue with this plugin.

We are not receiving any notification, I have configured the settings but still not receiving any notification , in the form of ticket or email.

Also I'm not able to add te domains, like .co.nz .nz .au. .in .uk .app .co.in .com.au extenis.

Please help to resolve this.

Thanks.

Same here.  No new tickets, no notifications, can’t sort by date of expiration (sorts month names alphabetically like an afterthought.), paginates long lists of domains 10 or so at a time.  Hmm.  So much promise with this one, but alas may not be prime time.

Hi,
Does the plugin have integration with Opsgenie? Thanks!

Hello @Bojan Erdeljan

Thank you for your interest in the License Manager plugin. The plugin does not currently support integration with Opsgenie, but we are open to developing such integration in the future. Can you describe your case and the requirements for such a solution in more detail, should such integration with Opsgenie be bidirectional? You can send us your ideas through our service desk portal here. Thank you!

Hello @AbhishekPandey
Thank you for your interest in the plugin and I apologize for the long response. Some domains, such as those registered under .gov, .edu, .uk, and other “specil” TLDs, are not available in the public WHOIS database, but the License Manager plugin supports adding custom domains. You can manually add any domain by checking the "Create custom domain" checkbox and specifying information about the registrar and expiration date.
