Jira Reminders: Avoid Missing Top-Priority Tasks

Have you ever missed a deadline? Ohh, who didn’t? According to some statistics, delays occur with employees missing 15% of their deadlines due to things like a flood of meetings, unclear priorities, and confusing processes. But there is good news for Jira users – you can set due date reminders for issues.

How to avoid missing deadlines in Jira

With a bit of planning and organization, you can ensure that you meet all your deadlines and avoid the stress of missing them.

  • Break down large tasks into smaller, more manageable subtasks.
  • Set clear priorities for the tasks and align the team to focus on the most critical tasks first.
  • Use the built-in burndown chart to track progress and ensure that tasks are completed on time.
  • Create custom workflows and use transition schemes to establish clear and consistent processes for completing tasks.
  • Set reminders: Use reminder apps to remind you of upcoming deadlines. This is a helpful way to stay on top of tasks, especially when you have multiple deadlines in one day.

Here we will overview the Boomerang: Reminders for Jira Issues app with an example of the support team.

How to set Jira reminders [the support team example]

Every support team has a lot of procedures they follow to handle customers in the best way. Even if your support team covers all frequently asked questions with instructions, you are definitely aware of the situation when customers expect some answer at the exact date and time. Or maybe they expect the update every 2nd day at the end of the business day.

It can be different cases, but the question is: How to remind all required people about some issue that needs to be updated?

With this issue in mind, the SaaSJet team released Boomerang: Reminders for Jira issues. It helps not to forget something important related to the Jira issues and provide the best value to customers.

Boomerang: Reminders for Jira Issues is a third-party app that can be added to Jira to provide additional reminder functionality. With Boomerang, users can set Jira reminder notifications for themselves or others on specific issues and receive messages at a particular time or after a certain period of time has passed. This app allows adding more flexibility, granularity and the possibility to configure custom reminders.

The workflow is effortless and straightforward.

  1. Install the app from Atlassian Marketplace to your Jira instance.
  2. Open an issue where you need additional attention and automatic Jira reminder, and click on the boomerang icon on the top of the issue.

  4. If your team collaborates in Slack, feel free to synchronize the reminder with this app so that the users can receive the notification in the right place.

Once all settings are done, the system will automatically post the Jira issue comment according to your configuration, as well as send the email from Jira.

Additionaly, you can view the list of issues where reminders were added. You can keep track of the Reminders Queue that has been added to your account by you or other users in this list. However, you can only remove those that you added.
