JerseyJiraRestClient SSLv3

getting exception when trying to access our jira api:

javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Received fatal alert: bad_record_mac

we've solved this before in other applications by configuring HTTP client to use SSLv3; however, we can't seem to figure out where to configure the JerseyJiraRestClient. Can you point us in the right direction?
