Is there a way to get Jira to remove dead Gitlab references?

We have Jira integrated to GItlab using the DVCS connecter.  When you create branches, comments, etc. in Gitlab the links are created in Jira, but when they go away, like for example after the peer review is completed, the references are still there.  If one were to click on them you get a 404 since the branch no longer exists.  Is there any way to correct this behavior?
