Is there a free plugin to conduct polls in Confluence?

No, as for now there is no any free version. Recently the app was made a paid one.

There is no any mention on the Marketplace that it is free.

Is there a different recommendation? or is Atlassian going to add this feature to Confluence?

I've created a ticket with Atlassian requesting they create an in-built macro for polling in Confluence. I'm amazed this is not already a feature. Please go and vote for the ticket! The more votes the more likely they are to make this change. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-70726
