We are rolling out Jira, and one view people will not give up is WBS, is that and Add-On, is it free, how do we get it.

In order to have WBS you would need to purchase an add-on that provides that.  Any of the gantt chart plugins like Big Gantt Picture or others provide the functionality.  JIRA Portfolio also provide this.

Thank you, we have Big Gantt, where is that functionality or where is it displayed?

On Big Gantt there are several places you can see the WBS.  "Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) can be found in the JIRA issue-page above the “Activity” container (all JIRA’s core containers are just above it). In the BigGantt and BigPicture's Gantt module, the Program's WBS panel is located to the left of the Gantt chart."  You can learn more here:

Hi @Tracey Williams ,

I know the feeling...I'm asked for Gantt Charts all the time too. There are a couple of add-on applications that can give you a good WBS, BigPicture or BigGantt and Portfolio come to mind. I've used both, but tend to like BigPicture better. (I'm still learning Portfolio, so I may change my mind when I become more familiar with it.)

There are also couple of add-ons that tackle WBS specifically; I haven't tried these two yet.

Great Gadgets for Jira Cloud

Work Breakdown Structure Story Board can also use a Jira filter to create a list of all the issues and ex[port it into Excel, create a pivot table to group by Epic, and add in the WBS numbers. That's about as close as I've been able to get with native Jira.

Thanks, I think you all are steering me in the right direction, as a Primavera and MS Project user, some things in Jira are not as intuitive,

Hi, @Tracey Williams. Another very popular WBS-related app is Structure for Jira. It has a free Gantt extension called Structure.Gantt. However, Structure is not free.

That said, I see that you already have BigGantt, which probably means you also have BigPicture (both are from a company called SoftwarePlant). Here's a link to the documentation for BigGantt.

Full disclosure, I work for the company that develops Structure and Structure.Gantt.

Hope this helps,
