How to use Components with Issue Templates?

Bertrand Drouhard May 22, 2019

Hi,

Scope is used to tell which fields will be used from your template. No problem to use Description, Summary or any standard fields that will be copied to your issue when using a template.

But I could not find a way to make it work with Components. In the Templates Project, you don't have the same components than in your destination project. So how to setup your Template with a Component?

Thank you for your help!

I found the solution...

Issue Templates add-on uses "xxx-textarea" fields to deal with multi value fields like Labels and Components.

So in your scope, add components-textarea, and make sure that in you Template Project you have a Component with the same name than the one you want to set in the destination issue. It works well this way.

Dear Bertrand,

I have the same problem, and was all happy when I read your solution:-).

But unfortunately, I did not succeed to make it work.

I want to specify a certain value from the components we use in our project and I also have a customfield 'Type/s' (nothing to do with field 'Issue Type).

I selected 'components-textarea' from the available fields and also 'Type/s, customfield_14929'.image.png

Still, when I want to specify the component, I only get the same list as is offered in in the normal 'Component field' - not the components we defined in our project.

The customfield 'Type/s) does not appear at all.

Do you have an idea what I did wrong?  Would be wonderful if you could help me!

Hello @Constanze Schmidt

It's Aleksandra from Deviniti, the vendor of the Issue Templates app, and I'll do my best to help you out with the trouble.

If it comes to components, the list you currently see on the attached screen is the list of components added to your Templates (TEMP project). I understand that you're unable to find other options (e.g. from your other project). If that's the case, please make sure that the same component exists in your Templates project (the name of the component has to be equal).

As soon as you add it to your Templates repository, the app will match the option by name and consequently autocomplete the value successfully. Please let me know if that works!

Also, if the "Type/s" field does not appear in your templates, you'd have to add it to the appropriate screens in your Templates project.

From the functional perspective, I know it's not a perfect solution, and we have plans to address it. If you'd like to find out more and be informed about our progress with this feature in the future, please raise a support request on our portal and we'll keep you updated with all the details.

Best regards,
Aleksandra

Dear Aleksandra,

thanks so much for the quick reply and the helpful hints. It worked well and solved my problem. I did not realize that you have relevant fields an values to the Templates-project as well.. Now, it clearly makes sense and will help us a lot with future templates.

👍🙏😃⭐

Kind regards

Co
