Hello,
Our company uses Next-gen projects. We use Roadmap, to track all parts of the project, however, we need to add email notifications to everyone who is watching or at least the person who is assigned to the task, when Epic due dates are close (or at least, that the due date has passed).
If it is possible, it would be great, if Jira could automatically create an issue, and put it in the Kanban board (with the notification), that the due date is close.
Right now if the due date of the epic has passed, no one receives a notification about that.
Thank you in advance!
Hello @Nikita Consultant
Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Per your description, I understand that you would like to notify the assignee of a specific task when its related Epic is close to its due date in a next-gen project. Is that correct?
Unfortunately, this can not be done with the default automation setting of Jira Cloud, since Next-gen projects use a different mechanism to link tasks to Epics, which are not recognized by the Automation yet. We have a feature request to make it work for Next-gen:
Setting epic link in next gen projects is broken in cloud
We suggest you keep an eye open in that feature request to be aware of any updates about its implementation.
That being said, there are two ways to achieve the goal you are looking for:
1 - Move your issues to a Classic Project where the Automation can be used with Epics, following the documentation below:
Migrate between next-gen and classic projects
2 - Although Epic links can not be recognized in Next-gen projects, Issue default links work in the same way as Classic projects. That being said, you can add an extra link (Blocks, related, etc) to your Epics, then the Automation rule will properly work.
Whatever option above you choose, the following automation rule would work for you:
Let us know if you have any questions.
As I understand, classic projects do not support roadmap-type visualization, however, the notifications are more important for us then the visual aspect.
We have migrated to the classic project.
Thank you for your reply!
