How Migrate Jira/Confluence Cloud to Jira/Confluence Server

Kevin Paulus March 21, 2022

We acquired a company using Jira Cloud but our customer restrictions require us to use on-premise server or data center versions.   We now need to bring their cloud data onboard:  How do we migrate from Cloud to server?

Hi @Kevin Paulus

There's a detailed help page for this - see: https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/migrating-from-jira-cloud-to-server-applications-938846963.html

It does depend on your type of migration though - i.e...

  • Is this a merge? Are you merging the Cloud instance into an existing Data Center (DC) instance?
  • Or, will this be a brand new Data Center, separate to your existing ones?

I'd initially consider...

  • If it's a merge, if it would be easier to migrate to a clean site, then merge the two DC instances instead. It might be possible to use a trial licence, or a developer licence for this.
  • Consider if any Apps from the Marketplace could help - such as Project Configurator or Configuration Manager for Jira (they can certainly help with DC > DC merging)
    • You can contact a vendor from the Support tab on their Marketplace listing. It's worth doing to see if their Apps can help with this specific scenario.
  • Asking for help - see migration help for some options. Even though this is not a Cloud migration, there's still a good reason for doing it!

Thanks Ste...
We're going the clean install on a blank server using our developer license.  From there, we'll extract the projects one-by-one as required to assure compatibility & compliance.
