Create a new story in a different project when the story is closed in the current project.

Reji Joseph June 22, 2020

We have two different boards that we use, one is for the product team, and other is for the sprint team. Now when the product team marks the story to done in their project I want it to automatically trigger and create the same story with attachments (Cloning) in the sprint project used by dev team.

Can this be achieved using Jira automation or is there any other automated way (JQL Query) ?

Hi @Reji Joseph  - Yes, that can be done using Automation For Jira.

1. Create a rule for Issue Transitioned

2. Put in any conditions you might need

3. Put in a new Action for Clone issue.

4. Identify the fields you want to change if any.

5. Save, publish and test your new rule.

A little more information:

There are two types of automation:

  • Global: In the Free version, you get 100 executions per product, per month
  • Project: In all versions, you get unlimited executions per month

Automation Basics: https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/guides/expand-jira/automation

You can do this via global rules to apply to all projects also. You'll need to be a Jira Admin/Site Admin, go to Jira Settings > System > Automation Rules (left-hand menu).

For more on using Automation For Jira see these help pages.
