Copy an Epic ticket field value to an issue field value within that epic

Is there a way to automate copying a field value on an epic ticket directly to issues within that epic with the same field title?

For example: If and a Epic ticket has a custom text field that is titled "Tag Number" and all of the issues within that Epic also have a field titled "Tag Number". 

When the issues have been added to that epic, is there a process that will automatically add a certain field value that is on that epic ticket?

For copying values on workflow transitions, the Issue Templates app can help - namely the Copy Value post function. In brief, with this you can create an Epic out of a template with the Tag Number specified and set up the post function to copy this value to the newly created issues.
