Best practices for using the Data section of Test Steps

What are the best practices for using the Data section of Test Steps. I am coming from using DevOps where we currently use parameter sets and wanting to find out what Data can be used in that field. I know you can use username:password. Is there a way to specify URL or Browser for example?
