Atlympics roundup: the Community's favorite apps

Earlier this month, the Marketplace held an event in the Community’s Atlympic Games. We asked you what your favorite apps are and why. We got lots of great responses, and very few apps came up twice! Clearly, you’re all great at finding the unique solutions that work best for your teams.

For those of you who missed it during the Atlympics event, here are ten apps Community members said they couldn’t live without:

JSU Automation Suite

JSU Automation Suite makes complex processes flow smoothly. This app helps you save time by automating repetitive tasks, reducing human error, & eliminating manual maintenance. No tedious upkeep whenever Jira updates, and no need to code.

According to Community Leader Brant Schroeder,

“If you want a way to create robust workflows to meet your users’ needs without having to code this is an excellent option.”

Zephyr Squad — Test Management for Jira

Zephyr Squad is a flexible test management solution inside Jira, perfect for Agile teams focusing on test design, execution, and automation. This app helps software teams perform manual and automated testing with minimal disruption to their Jira environments.

According to Community Leader G subramanyam,

“Zephyr Squad is user friendly and easy to navigate. Their integrations and APIs make it easier to work.”

Polls for Confluence

This app provides a robust set of tools and templates for polling your team in Confluence. Polls for Confluence makes it easy to engage your team so they can vote on a product name, survey user satisfaction, or pick the time of the next company party.

According to Community member and Solution Partner Svenja,

“In addition to funny team-building polls, the app can be useful for collecting feedback of any kind. The biggest advantage I see is that it gives the user the opportunity to react to content. Not just with a like or a comment, but by answering specific questions.”

Big Picture Project Management & PPM

Take your project and product portfolio management (PPM) to the next level with this marketplace app. BigPicture supports Agile (SAFe®, LeSS, and more), Classic, and Hybrid methodologies, which makes it a go-to solution for organizations undergoing agile transformation.

This was another favorite from Community Leader G subramanyam, who calls this app

“a game-changer given the features and excellent support”

Scriptrunner

Scriptrunner is a popular automation and customization app for Jira and Confluence. Scriptrunner for Jira, which was called out in Community Atlympics, allows Jira users to automate Jira actions with Groovy, customize workflows, and enhance search within Jira.

Community Leader Kristjan Geir Mathieson says,

“We'd be a bunch of sour patches if we didn't have ScriptRunner, it really does so much for our Jira instance. It really works wonders!”

He was backed up by several other Community members in the comments. Check them out (and Kristjan’s full post) here.

Backbone Issue Sync

Backbone Issue Sync is a popular app for synchronizing issue data between different Jira projects and instances. This app allows you to synchronize Jira Software, Jira Service Management, & Jira Core across Server, Cloud, and Data Center installations.

Community member Marek Vejrosta says,

“[if we didn’t have Backbone Issue Sync] we would see a steep increase in administration. We would also lose transparency….This would result in frustration and errors, which is unthinkable in many cases today.”

Configuration Manager

Configuration Manager is a popular app for change management, governance and scaling, and data migration in Jira and Jira Service Management. With this app, admins can migrate Jira and JSM projects with 0 data loss, see how proposed configuration changes will impact existing projects, automate the promotion of changes between environments, and more.

Kristin Lyons, a contract Atlassian Administrator and Community member says

“If I didn't have this plugin, I don't think I would be doing merges today for organizations!”

Tempo Timesheets (+ Jira Automation)

Tempo is a popular time tracking and reporting app that provides automated time tracking and resources planning solutions, giving organizations the insight they need to keep on top of project costs, plan resources and track customer costs and CAPEX.

One clever Atlympian, Community Leader Flavien Gache, shared a trick to automate time tracking and transparency using Jira Automation and Tempo.

Flavien figured out a three-step automation flow to ensure managers could get an email overview of who was working on which tasks without requiring employees to do anything but log their time in Tempo. According to Flavien,

“Inconsistencies are no more. Everybody is happy ;)”

Issue Templates for Jira

Issue Templates is an app that allows you to apply templates so that team members can generate Issues and even whole Epic structures in just a few clicks. With this app, you can provide your team with a reliable tool to make every issue precise and error-free.

Daniel Ebers, the Community Leader who recommended this app, says it helped his team move away from an unstructured environment with hundreds of custom fields.

“We believe that the manual creation of structures is prone to errors, having potential to decrease productivity and user satisfaction. Therefore we really appreciate Issue Templates can help us powering even complex processes and find the support from Deviniti always helpful, professional.”

Extension for JSM

Extension for Jira Service Management provides a package of features to help you customize Jira Service Management and take your customer service to the next level. With this app, you can configure dynamic forms, create bundled custom fields, and display additional data when viewing request details.

Atlassian Consultant and Community Leader Hana Kučerová appreciates the ability to create dynamic fields and show customers additional details. She says with this app,

“…forms become shorter and more accurate. The application can handle different situations and combinations of field values.”

Thank you so much to all the Atlympians who participated! We love hearing about how you get more out of Atlassian’s products with apps and customizations 🙂
