That is a KB question.

When I activate JIRA task in Eclipse/Mylyn, change files and try to commit the changes, the commit dialog is not populated with JIRA issue info.

Populating commit comments is a feature of Mylyn which takes task (JIRA issue) info and relays that information to Eclipse and VSC integration.

This feature works fine with all popular VCS like Subversion, CVS, Git and Mercurial but requires Mylyn to be configured properly.

If Atlassian Connector for Eclipse is installed correctly and you can work with JIRA issues but commit messages are still not there please try/check following:

  • Mylyn Context Connector:Team Support is properly installed.
  • Windows > Preferences > Mylyn > Team > "Automatically create and manage with task context" is checked
  • Windows > Preferences > Mylyn > Team > Commit message is not empty
  • Your workflow is as follows:
    • Activate JIRA task in Mylyn
    • Change source files
    • Try to commit changes

If the commit message is still not there you can also try few more things:

  • Install Mylyn Context Connector: Eclipse IDE if it is not installed
  • Install Mylyn Bridge: Eclipse IDE if it is not installed
  • Make sure Mylyn Tasks UI and Mylyn Team UI are enabled under "Windows > Preferences > General > Startup and Shutdown"
  • Install Mylyn Versions Connector: CVS/Git/Subclipse... depending on your Version Control System
  • Install Subversive Team Provider if using Subversive.

If the commit message is still not there then you are in troubles and you need to search more for a reason. Here are some tips and resources:

Jacek
