why does the "upload addon" function give The add-on at ___ cannot be installed on this Cloud instance. For the Jira Client?

Louis Bernardi April 10, 2015

I wanted to give the Desktop client a test since the web client is slows down considerably when prioritizing our backlog due to the sheer size of it. I downloaded the client and during the test of the connection settings i get "This JIRA does not have the JIRA client license installed. Please..."

So I got a key for the trial, downloaded a copy of the jar and went to the upload page. I tried just entering the URL download link for the jar since there was no option to upload from a local system. The following error appeared:

The add-on at https://marketplace.atlassian.com/download/plugins/com.almworks.jira.plugin.jiraclient/version/9204150 cannot be installed on this Cloud instance.

The addon does not appear through the marketplace.

What do?

Hi @Louis Bernardi,

Not all types of add-ons are compatible with Atlassian Cloud.  Only add-ons built using "Atlassian Connect" may be installed in your cloud instance.  It looks like the JIRA Client plugin you are trying to use is not compatible with Atlassian Cloud.

Uploading add-ons via a jar file is a restricted function in Cloud (more information here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/Cloud/Restricted+Functions+in+Cloud+Applications)

More information about installing add-ons in Cloud is available here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/Cloud/Atlassian+Cloud+and+Add-ons
