Hello,

I just want to know: What is the difference between JIRA 6.3.6 and 6.3.6a? I've downloaded JIRA 6.3.6 and upgraded my instance to 6.3.6 but now a new release 6.3.6a is there. after upgrading 6.3.6 some of my client users report that the system always get slow response so I am trying to fetch new updates now.

but I even cant update 6.3.6 to 6.3.6a that the installer treat 6.3.6a as a downgrade and refuse to go forward.

Is there anything wrong with JIRA's release management?

Hey there,

The product is actually the same, the difference is the installation method. Version 6.3.6a has a simpler installation method whereas the 'Try JIRA' blue button while you're installing the product will install the product for evaluation, setting up all application properties and the database (HSQLDB) automatically.

In version 6.3.6, the usual setup process is followed, which is the same process as if you click on "I know what I'm doing" on 6.3.6a. That means that you'll manually setup the database and application properties.

Downloading JIRA from https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/download has a 50% chance of downloading the 'a' version. smile

I hope this clarifies a bit!
