wanted to Upgrade to 7.12.3 from 7.3.1

Mayuresh Trivedi February 14, 2019

We wanted to upgrade Jira from 7.3.1 to newest version of Jira. I guess it's 7.12.3 now. Jira is hosted to AWS.

Kindly let us know the details of,

(1) How to take backup of existing Jira and data

(2) Easiest way to upgrade it, without affecting end users and loosing any data (Project or User data/Login etc...)

(3) How to reload our data of 7.3.1 to newest installed version ? (i.e. 7.12.3 now)

(4) Do we need to take license for 7.12.3 too while having license for 7.3.1 ? If Yes, please let us know the process to get it.

(5) how to setup Jenkins Job to regularly take the backup of database.

Hi @Mayuresh Trivedi,

In AWS it is recommended to use native backup tools.

  1. Take a snapshot of the Jira server and DB.
    1. Make sure the backups are taken at the same time. i.e. 2pm
  2. Follow the Upgrade checklist
  3. Reload of data is handled by the upgrade
  4. The license will be automatically applied on the new version.
    1. Check that your license allows an upgrade to the latest version.
  5. Again AWS native tools are recommended. You can use AWS Backup or a script that utilizes the API.
