separate notificatio schemes for cases and bugs of the same project

On Demand question:

One of my projects has both cases and bugs, however I wish to share case updates with all involved, while bug updates with R&D users only.

How can that be done?

You can have only one notification scheme per project. And you want to notify on the same event.

The only idea I have, use a multiuser field which contains for Bugs only the R&D users and for cases all involved people. On update event send a mail to all user of that multi user field. However the tricky part would be to get that field maintained properly.
