preventing new tickets of a certain type

i want to deprecate certain ticket types.  i dont want to delete all the existing tickets or migrate them to another type.  I want to leave them as is but prevent new tickets of they type from being created.  the documentation tells me how to migrate them and delete them.  How do i leave the existing tickets as is but prevent new ones (of a certain type) from being created?

You don't.  Jira doesn't have a function to do that.

You could put impossible validators on the workflows for them, so the create transition always fails.

If you're on server, then the Behaviours module in Scriptrunner can be used to remove options from the drop-down, but you'll still be able to create them in other ways.
