migrating Jira from Windows to Unix based cloud

Gurinder Summan October 30, 2013

We are considering Jira (+greenhopper), initially, as a cloud managed solution.

However, we may consider bringing the software and all its data (i.e. user stories, workflows, users etc) migrating Jira from Windows to Unix based cloud

Would it be possible to bring it all in Windows to Unix based cloud?

And how difficult would it be?

Thank you in advance

Just the database type is not enough information to give you a helpful answer.

In theory, you can take a Jira installation, export the data, import it into the target system, copy the attachments and lose nothing.

In reality, it can get quite complex if you have customisations and plugins. Size is a consideration too - a small Jira is quick and easy to move, a large one may struggle to import/export.

Might find some help here;

(Still a work in progress, but feel free to leave comments in the page)

Hi, if you don't have many customizations, e.g. file system changes, etc... I forsee no problems. It's pretty easy actually. How big is your instance? What database are you running at the moment? MS SQL Server?
