jira-administrator group oddity

Scott Stricklin August 12, 2014

Within a project I can see that a user is listed under the "Administrators" project role, with the "jira-administrators" group. However, when I go into "User Management" and filter for "In Group: jira-administrators" this user does not show up. They do show up under "In Group: jira-project-administrators"

This is somewhat confusing. On the one hand they don't seem to have overall JIRA Admin privileges, which is good, but I'm not entirely sure what privileges they do have, or why the group names are mixed up.

Hey Scott.

The JIRA ROLES are a per-project permission that define who have access, and which kind of access they have in a specific project.

JIRA permissions are system wide and can have groups assigned to them.

So what you are experiencing is a ROLE "Administrators" role that have the group jira-administrators, that's why they appear just in jira-project-administrators.

Hope this helps! :)
