how do I get back all the epics we created in the past?

We accidentally deleted the epic type, along with the epics we created were also deleted.

Now I see this message: No epic has been created in this project. Create your first epic.

I got the epic type back but how do I get back all the epics we created in the past?

Hello @Nguyễn Thị Hảo

If you actually deleted the Epic issues then the only way to get them back would be to restore a backup, which you would have had to make prior to deleting the issues. When an issue is delete, it is permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

There are third party apps that can be added to put "deleted" issues into a "trash" area rather then immediately deleting them, but that also you would have had to have in place before deleting the issues.

Deleting an issue type does not automatically delete the issues of that type. Whether you were deleting the Epic issue type at the Global issue types list or locally within a Team Managed project you would've been prompted to convert the Epics to another valid issue type. Did you convert them to another issue type? Or did you delete all the Epic issues and then delete the Epic issue type?

hello @Trudy Claspill

Thank you for your sharing.

My team deleted the Epic issue type, so that, all epics automatically disappear.

I have admin rights, what can I do to restore them?
Or can I contact JIRA to restore the deleted tasks? I can get the ID of the epics.

When an issue type is deleted that does not delete the issues of that type. The person deleting the issue type is prompted to convert the issues to another issue type. There is not an option in that process to delete the issues, only to convert them

If you still have an issue key for an issue that was an Epic, what happens when you search for an issue with that key?

If it was converted to another issue type, then it was not deleted and should be found by the search.

If it is not found then it was probably deleted by a user, but not directly by deleting the Epic issue type.

Deleting an issue is permanent. Once deleted there is no way to recover the deleted issue except by restoring a backup.

Atlassian support cannot recover it for you. They do not provide backup services for clients. That is a client responsibility.
