how do I create a common, repeatable list of sub-tasks

Ron Chipman October 3, 2016

As a BI development team,

We want the ability to create a list of sub-tasks (or 2 or 3) that we can repeatedly apply to a story as it comes in rather than re-create the same 4-5 sub-tasks for every story every time,

So that we can improve our efficiency and execution by not focusing on administrative tasks of cut&pasting.

---

Example:

Story = I want to analyze the revenue of product XYZ so that we can make Q4 plans

Tasks :

  1. Gather the data
  2. Build views/tables to relate the data
  3. Conduct data discovery
  4. Perform analysis
  5. Present findings in visualization

---

While the details of each of these differ, having the abilty to quickly populate the 5 sub-tasks and have the team focus on the discriminate details will really help our small team of 3 gather more efficiencies to meet the demands of the organization.

Thanks,

Ron

The simplest approach is to create a "template" issue with subtasks. Clone that issue with it's subtasks. There are also several different add-ons which can help with this kind of request. Here are some of them:

Quick Subtasks for JIRA

Create on Transition for JIRA

List to subtasks

Issue Templates for JIRA

Clone Plus for JIRA
