emoticons in JIRA result in "Communication breakdown" + Exception

zaphnet August 30, 2017

Which Emoticons are supported?

When adding "THINKING FACE" "\xF0\x9F\xA4\x94"

The System fails with core dump with JIRA 7.0.2

useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=UTF8&sessionVariables=storage_engine=InnoDB

Which verison of unicode is supported by which version of JIRA?

MySQL doesn't support those extended emoji characters with JIRA.

Or the other way around - JIRA doesn't support them when backed by MySQL.

I don't know which one of those the fault lies with, but it's one of the two.  Either way, you can't use extended emojis with JIRA.
