email config on a local server

Blommetje January 22, 2012

i have jira running on an old local server here in the office. Works fine, but i have no clue on how to configure the emails. And it would be nice if the developers and everyone got an email when issues are logged.

is this possible? and is there a how to?

offtopic: are other people also getting a http 500 error when searching this forum?

Hi Maarten,

I'm not sure which version of JIRA you're using, but here's the documentation for version 4.4 on configuring email notifications - http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA044/Configuring+Email+Notifications

Hope that helps,

Andrew.

PS - didn't get a 500 error searching the forum just now, but the forum does have a few performance issues in general which could have triggered the error when you searched.

Thnx, this helped. I'm just not clear on something. I have a server with over 50+ domains. I installed jira directly on the c:\ HD and i can connect fine through the IP of the server over :8080.

But i do not know anything about the email on this. Do i need to create a domain for this ip? Or setup an email? And if so, under which of the 50+ domains?

jira says it is connected fine, but when i send a test email, I dont recieve a thing.

Hi Maarten,

You shouldn't need to set up a specific email just for JIRA, you can just use an existing SMTP server. This is an old document for troubleshooting email notifications, but is still relevant - http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA041/Troubleshoot+Mail+Notification+Problems

Also, I'm sure you've already checked, but the emails from JIRA are not getting picked up by a spam filter are they? That's tripped me up in the past.

Andrew.

Got it working. I did not use an emailaccount but just something open. I made jira@COMPANYNAMe.com and logged in with Jira on that account. Now all people (also outside of the office) get email notifications.

Thnx!
