different field configuration for different project

I was told by vendor developer that the description field changed to default text instead of wiki style during data import because there are some issues not to keep the original text. 

I wonder whether there is a way to set Text Formatting Notation ON or OFF ? 

The goal is to fulfill others' 'wish' to have wiki field (text effects, etc) , while the data imported in one project can remain exactly the same as they were.

Yes.  Look at the "field configuration scheme" and the "field configurations" in it.  You need one FC with Description set to wiki and a second one with plain text.  You then need one FCS for each.

so different scheme can define different field configuration even for the out of box field. good, as long as we have the answer, then we can serve. 

if I create default project (out of box), it should be going back to the 'wiki' way.
