connecting jira and servicedesk to our email system via smtp

Paul Dillon April 16, 2015

I have JIRA for 500 users and it sends emails using our Corporate Outlook servers just fine. I want JIRA, and Servicedesk also, to accept incoming emails but my only options for connecting to the Outlook servers seems to be imap and pop. I emailed our email admins and they say I can only use SMTP on the Outlook servers. Am i missing something or are they? Or is this just not possible with our configuration?

thanks

Hi Paul.

SMTP is a protocol to send emails, if you want JIRA to retrieve emails from your mail server and create tickets from it, you need to have the option to access the server with POP or IMAP.

Check again with your sysadmin, because if you are using Outlook to retrieve your emails, you probably has IMAP or POP protocol available in your server.

Cheers!
