change public facing domain for Jira / Conf / Hipchat

Hiten February 16, 2018

Hi All,

I am new to the atlassian suite, sorry if this is a v simple question.

we currently have jira.domainX.com / Confluence.domainX.com and hipchat.domainX.com for our server environment.

after a big banding change we want to change these to jira.domainY.com and so on.

In my mind i see this working in the following way to ensure as little distrubtion as possible

  • create new A records for domainY on the hosting provider
  • point new A records to the IP address of the old domainX
  • Ensure domainY records are acceptable, configured and listening to the correct ports
  • change base URLs as required within confluence / jira / hipchat?
  • add a re direct from domainX --> DomainY so all old book marks and favourites continue to work for end users.

Am i missing anything really obvious?

Many thanks in advance

That all looks correct to me, although I would also recommend a look at the application links if you have any between the systems being moved - you may need to correct their links.
