can we use the same license for two instances of JIRA ?

vinay.mr@volvo.com December 8, 2011

hi,

we have two instances production and test boxes,

scenario : JIRA 4.2 is running on the production instance whenever the time comes to update to latest version of JIRA we first deploy in our test box and will run for few months before pushing to production.

Also we are doing migration in our test box from various other tools to JIRA so we need test box should be up always and don't want to run out of expiry issues

Currently we are not allowed to buy one more license for test box.. so can you suggest what is the alternative plan to achieve this ??

regards

vinay

You can use developer licenses for your test boxes. Every commercial customer is entitiled for a developer license (and open source too - when asking :)). Just go to my.atlassian.com, log in there and in the table which shows your Commercial JIRA license you should see a "View Developer License" link.

AFAIK you don't need at all to buy two licenses, as long as you have only one production instance.

Yup, if you can wade through your license agreement, it is in there - you need one license per PRODUCTION server, but you can then run non-production development/test systems alongside it with the developer license, that's what it's for.

No. That would be two production instances, so you need two licences. The host is irrelevant, it's the usage pattern of each instance you are licenced for.
