Workflow question

When our developers transition their subtasks from status to status we need the parent stories to transition automatically along with them (i.e. when a subtask for a parent story is moved to In Progress, the Story should automatically be moved to In Progress). I can not for the life of me figure out how to do this. I have the Misc Workflow Extension turned on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
