Why don't JIRA gadgets allow direct input of JQL?

Alexis Taylor June 12, 2017

When adding a gadget (like Issue Statistics, for example) I have the choice of entering a project or saved filter as the basis for the gadget results. But why can't we just enter JQL directly, similar to what Confluence JIRA Issues macro allows? This would make it much easier to further filter or modify the results for that particular gadget without editing the saved filter (which may be used by other gadgets) or create a new filter each time.
