Why doesn't Zephyr for JIRA cloud create issue links for me?

I am evaluating Zephyr for JIRA Cloud.

I am following the instructions here: https://zephyrdocs.atlassian.net/wiki/display/ZFJCLOUD/Ad+hoc+Executions

It says "A new defect can be created by clicking on the "Create" button in the main toolbar" (I guess there used to be a Create Defect button on the page?  Some old documentation seems to show that...)

So I create a new defect by clicking on the "Create" button in the main toolbar at the top of my JIRA page.

The documentation cited above then says "When a new defect is created this way..., a remote link is created in that particular defect under the “Links” section".

But there are no links created in the new issue.  Why not?

This issue also applies for me on a server installation of JIRA 6.3.13 with Zephyr addon. The options to "Enable issue link from issues to tests" has been enabled.
