Why does the Kanban interface count the issue and sub-task separately when totaling within a status?

We're using sub-tasks under issues as a way to separate work into discrete, manageable pieces. When we place a sub-task in a status column in the Kanban interface, the counter at the top counts the issue and the sub-task separately. Is this a configuration switch we haven't found?

Kanban Board will treat the sub-tasks as an issue and it will count it in total. However, there is a feature request related to the same request. Please feel free to vote/watch and comment for updates.
