Why can't I move a user story from open to in progress?

Robin Zaragoza August 21, 2012

I found similar questions, and it seemed to come down to whether that transition was possible in the defined workflow. I've checked that the workflow does allow going from open to in progress, so that is not the issue.

Are there any other requirements I need to look at that might be the issue (i.e. does the story have to have tasks, estimates, etc)?

Exactly for that kind of problem I installed the Conditions Validator Plugin (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.intenso.jira.plugins.condval.intenso-conditions-validator)

Maybe you could try that...

Hey Thomas, thanks! That looks very useful. Sadly, I'm at a large org and I don't have admin permission to install plug-ins. I will ask the relevant team if they can install. Any ideas what conditions might be stopping me in the meantime?

Just to be sure: The transistion isn't showing on the view issue screen, or do you encounter errors when using it? Or - as you said "move" - are you using greenhopper, and the columns might be misconfigured?

I any case it would be good to know the conditions that are present for the transition - maybe it want's to assign the issue to a non assignable user etc. But without knowing more that's too much guessing...
