Which software or plugins do we need to collaborate with other companies?

We use Confluence, Jira and Service Desk. Confluence and Jira is as far as possible only used internally (and at least Confluence is not available from the outside).

The software products we develop and sell come with a "project" we make together with our customer. Such a project usually takes 6 - 24 months. (Until all processes have been deployed to the software, etc.)

Currently we buy a 10 user confluence licence for every project we need to document while this project is running. Access to this Confluence instance then is granted to our customer and the project management. This also means those Confluence instances are also available over the internet. For tickets we use Service Desk with our Jira main instance.

We need something which lets our customer and us document the project. When the project has been finished it should be moved to (or stay at) a confluence space. Also we need something more powerful than Service Desk.

All of this sound like we should just open up Confluence to the internet and create users and separate everything by different privileges.

However, opening up Confluence to the internet is something we don't really wanna do - due to security concerns. Actually I also don't wan't to open up Jira to the Internet - but I need to because of Service Desk.

Is there some product or are there some plugins which can help us with this? Opening up Confluence also has the downside that we can't have internal comments below pages our customer also can see, etc.
