Where is the interface for entering custom code?

I have seen many references to people adding custom code (SQL?) to Jira to manipulate data/fields. I am not a developer and I'm trying to figure out where this code goes. Is there a link or interface for customizing Jira using code?

Hi Wayne,

I'm sorry to say that custom code isn't permitted on the OnDemand platform, so you will be very limited by the customisations you can make to your instance.
