When logged work exceeds estimated work, why is the task removed from the Portfolio plan?

Jeff Kelly March 8, 2017

With a Task being presented within a Portfolio plan, the logged work for that task is updated to exceed the Estimated effort.  When the plan is re-calculated, the updated Task is removed from the Plan timeline.  If I remove the logged time from the Task, recalculating the plan allows the Task to reappear on the plan timeline.  The status of the Task has not changed, only the logged work.   Why would the Task be removed from the plan timeline?

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your question. I understand how this could be confusing.

When the working hours exceed the estimated effort, there is effectively no effort left to schedule because there are no remaining hours. An issue with no estimation or an estimation of 0 takes up no time and therefore is not scheduled.

You can remedy this by updating the remaining effort when logging hours.

Hope that helps. Cheers,
Allard
