When custom fields are copied, are the custom IDs retained?

Michael Davis September 15, 2015

I have a JIRA Instance with several custom fields that we refer to directly using custom field IDs. If I use the Configuration Manager to move these fields over to a new instance, will all of the custom fields receive new IDs or retain the old ones?

Hi Michael,

Where are the custom fields referred by ID? E.g. are they referenced from filters, post function/conditions/validators or from script or something else?

Custom field IDs are internal for a JIRA instance and there is no way to guarantee the same IDs on another instance, so you can assume that the IDs on the new system will be different. CMJ handles references by ID rom filters, workflows and other configurations (if they are standard for JIRA or from some of the supported add-ons: https://botronsoft.atlassian.net/wiki/display/CMJ/Support+for+3-rd+Party+Add-ons), so on the target JIRA the new IDs will be used to refer the newly created or matched custom fields. However if you use IDs in scripts or in a more unconventional way (e.g. in descriptions) they will not be migrated.

If you have more questions or would like a demo of the product don't hesitate to drop us an email at support@botronsoft.com

Thanks,

George
