When a JIRA user disappears from Active Directory

Mikhail T December 20, 2013

We have Jira (and Confluence) set up to synchronize user-accounts from corporate Active Directory. This works alright except...

When a particular user leaves the company and disappears from the Active Directory, any trace of them seems removed from Jira... We would've preferred, if the user remained in Jira -- just marked as "inactive" -- for as long as there are tickets, which he originated or commented on (possibly for ever).

Is there any way to achieve that? Thank you!

Yes, it is a known issue. It is not recommended to delete the user from AD. You should instead mark the user as inactive in AD.

Btw, marking inactive in AD will mark the user as inactive in JIRA 6.1 onwards but not in earlier versions. See https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-30694

In earlier versions, you will have to remove the user from all groups as well (and maybe move to a inactive-users to group to make it more explicit)
