What is the impact if we run JIRA on Virtual Machine?

Krupasindhu Nayak April 14, 2016

Hi All,

I am running JIRA on a physical server in my organisation. The current instance of JIRA includes 1500+ users 130 projects and about 100+ custom fields. The current backup file size is 180 MB.

I am planning to migrate JIRA to another server as part of JIRA upgrade and migration.

Is it possible to setup JIRA Software on a virtual machine for production and if so, what will be the impact to all?

Yes, it'll work fine, as long as the virtual machine has enough resources to run it well.

The only thing I'd caution you about is storage - the index should be placed on a fast local disk, not shared or remote storage.  Or you will probably have performance issues.
