What is the difference between "JIRA Software" and "JIRA" version?

Matej Vitásek April 20, 2016

If I navigate to JIRA Administration > Applications, I see the following two versions:

  • JIRA Software 7.1.4
  • JIRA v7.1.2#...

What is the difference? How do I upgrade "JIRA" (whatever that is) to version 7.1.4 as well?

Not a lot.  It might be easier to think of JIRA being made up of up to three three things.  JIRA Core is an issue tracker.  JIRA Software and JIRA Service Desk are applications that you install in JIRA Core that add development functions and/or helpdesk functions to it.

So, they're technically separate pieces of software, with different versions.

Oh, now I see, it's the JIRA Core 7.1.2 block with the big Download button smile So I have to upgrade it as usual, with the installer and such. I was kind of hoping for an in-app upgrade.
