What is the best way to manage users across all Atlassian products?

Richard Saffell May 12, 2015

We have a community license with Atlassian and we started with JIRA.  Then we added Confluence, and started to allow users to create accounts on Confluence to use Confluence Questions.  The JIRA and Confluence users say "Directory: JIRA Server".

We're thinking about adding Stash possibly with public projects.  What is the best way long-term to manage user accounts – should we continue to use JIRA Server, or something else (like Crowd)?

Hi Richard!

The principal advantage of Crowd, is the Single-Sign-On(SSO), but you still can manage your users accounts with JIRA Server. If you're thinking about getting more Atlassian products, Crowd is a good option to centralize your users management, and still have the SSO option.

If have any doubt or  question, please let us know.

Hi,
if you are Planing to use more Atlassian Tools, Crowd is a good solution.

  • Atlassian Single Sign On between all tools
  • Other Applications like Apache2, can also use Crowd for authentication

Depending on you environment, another kind of user directory (OpenLDAP) could be also
usefull, but it will not offer the comfort of Crowd.

Greetings,
Oliver
