We're having a hard time with Role-based setup

Dave Drexler February 20, 2017

We had everything working in a test instance of Jira, but after a data refresh of the test instance from our production instance, role-based estimation is no longer working.

Everything seems to be set up correctly, but when I view the screen with the role-based fields, the screen does not display the drop-down of roles. The Assignees (By Roles) field just says "None."

Help?

Hi Abhinav - answers:

  1. We have a role-based scheme set up. Associated Issues Types are
    1. Default

    2. New Feature

    3. Sub-Task

    4. Task

    5. Bug

    6. Epic

    7. Story

  2. The scheme has Role-based configurations set up.
  3. The Role-Based config has the following roles associated:
     - Administrators
    · Developers
    · Eng Dev Mgrs
    · Users
    · VDOC Admins
    · Code Reviewer
    · QA-FM
    · QA-UI
    · Eng QA

  4. All associated issue types are using the Role-Based config.

  5. License is valid and up-to-date.

Thanks Dave,

The set up looks okay. I would need more information to test this and find the cause.

First is, how did you do the data refresh? Also if you could let us know, what version of JIRA and our plugin you are currently on?

In the meantime, you could also do a server restart, just in case the changes were not taken by the plugin.

You could also do a couple of things :

  • Remove the current role based CFs from the screen, and create new CFs of the role based type and add them on the screens. If this doesn't work, then as a last resort, do the following:
  • Delete the role based customfields from the system, and then going to Configuration or Scheme page, in the "Issues" admin page. There you will see, a button appears as "Complete Configuration", which when you press, will create all the 3 CFs again. Then you can re-add them on the screens, and see if that works.

Thanks,

Abhinav.

Hi Dave,

I see that you have had a data refresh. There could be a couple of reasons for the roles not being displayed :

  1. If you did not have any role based scheme set up for the project.
  2. If the scheme selected for the project has Role based configurations not setup for the issue types.
  3. The configurations are empty (no roles have been added to them).
  4. It could also be possible, that some of the issue types (like for the issues you are testing this), have not been mapped to any configuration or an empty one.
  5. You could also check if the license is properly set up and you have a valid license.

Please check the above possibilities. If you still face the issue, then you can may be share a bit more about your set up and other information and we can look into this.

Thanks,

Abhinav.

Thanks, Abhinav - our version of JIRA is JIRA Software server v7.1.1, and the plugin is v1.8.81.

For the refresh of Jira, we just copied over the db and files. Sorry, I don't know the specifics.

We'll try the other things you suggest and get back to you - thanks again.
