We are receiving a "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" intermittently on startup and while using Jira

We are getting an java.lang.OutOfMemoryError error in our catalina stderr log on startup and during regular usage.

How is Jira configured? What plugins have you installed ? There's not enough info to act on.

You'll need to give us an idea of the size of your Jira (users and total number of issues), and how the memory allocation is done. You can find that (and lots more) on the system information page.

As Radu hints though, all you've done here is said "it's broken, and there's a memory error". That's about as helpful as saying "my car doesn't work and there's a warning light". We have no clue if the problem is no fuel, an engine fault, it's been crushed by rampaging penguins, the battery is flat, or you've dropped it in a ditch.
