Upgrading from Jira 4.4.5 to 5.2.9

Serge Dukic April 2, 2013

Hi,

At the moment we're running Jira version 4.4.5 and would like to upgrade to the latest stable release (5.2.9 at the time of writing).

This Jira instance has a lot of data and has become somewhat unweildly over the years. With this in mind, we were considering upgrading in a "staggered" manner. i.e. first to 5.0, then to 5.1 and finally to 5.2.

Is this the recommended upgrade path or could we just upgrade straight to 5.2 from 4.4?

Also, would it be easier to stop our current instance, bring up a "seperate" Jira instance and then "migrate" the configuration and point it at our production database or is it safer/easier to upgrade in place?

You can easily upgrade your JIRA instance to the latest version of JIRA if you wish. Please see our page on upgrading JIRA here - https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Upgrading+JIRA
