Upgrading JIRA server from 6.1.5 to 7.3.1 & migrating data

David Shapiro August 22, 2017

Morning,

I need to get production data over to our development server during an upgrade of development.  In the past I think we did an xml backup and then during the upgrade you got an option to point at the xml file that it would then restore.

The url:  https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/upgrading-confluence-4578.html

has a warning to not do this at the very top of the page.

This is using MS Sql.  What is the recommended way to get the data over if I cannot use the xml?

Anybody have a doc/steps they use that they can share to do this process?

Hi David,

The doc you are referencing is for the Confluence application.  The XML backup is definitely ok for JIRA:

Restoring data

Restoring data from an xml backup

You can also use a native backup to restore from using the steps in Restoring information from a native backup.

Hopefully that clears things up a bit!

Cheers,

Branden
