Upgrade from JIRA Version 4.2.3 to Version 6.0

csit.jira.support@list.db.com June 24, 2014

Hello -

We are currently using Version 4.2.3 and would like to migrate to Version 6.0. We need assistance and pointers on how we can do this upgrade? We have read on some sites that this cannot be done directly. Please can you provide us the high level points for the migration, the features in version 6 that are not compatible with V 4.2.3 and hence unavailable.

We essentially require a step by step guide on the steps that we need to do (backups, configurations, import / export of configurations, data import / export, workflows import / export, user import/export etc).

We also believe that V6.0 supports customized workflows. Can we migrate our workflows from V4.2.3 to V6?

All pointers and help appreciated. Thanks in advance -

Niyas Ahmed

You should be able to follow the standard documentation for this. That basically says:

  • Stop old Jira
  • Backup
  • Install new Jira
  • Start new Jira
  • Wait for upgrade to process

Have a read through https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Upgrading+JIRA

I'm not sure why you're asking abotu import and export - although the things in there have changed, version 2 of Jira (and possibly version 1, although I never worked with that) has always included all of those features in backups and upgrades.

Similarly for workflows - you've been able to customise workflows in version 4 (and 3...), not sure why you think it's new in 6.
