Upgrade from JIRA 4.2 to 5.1 Recommendation

Steve Motola July 16, 2012

We have an installed 4.2 installation that has not been used extensively.

We could go the upgrade path, or could do a fresh 5.1 install and just import XML that was exported from the other instance.

Is this a preferable (easier/better) way to do the upgrade?

Does the XML include all the issues, as well as projects, users, schemes, etc?

Recommendation or advice appreciated, I'd like to get going on it this afternoon PST...

XML includes everything and hence it is easier if you are upgrading from 4.2 to 5.1. But you will have manually copy the Attachments if you have any to the new attachments folder.

I suggest you do a test upgrade before the production one!
